EU may miss GHG targets due to projected indirect land use change impacts from biofuels

The European Union is unlikely to reach its greenhouse gas reduction targets due to increased GHG emissions from ILUC attached to biodiesel from canola, soy and palm oil, if policies are changed to reflect ILUC factors. Biodiesel represents about 2/3 of the biofuels currently used in Europe but switching over to ethanol and second generation biofuels will require significant time and investment.
