Scientists Trick Iron-Eating Bacteria into "Breathing" Electrons in Effort to Create Biofuels
Typically the bacteria contribute to the corrosion of steel pipelines, bridges and ships, but researchers at the University of Minnesota’s BioTechnology Institute used electrons from an electrode to make the bacteria “breathe.” The findings are published in the January 29th online edition of mBio, an open access magazine of the American Scoiety for Microbiology
