The development of physical techniques to monitor relevant photosynthesis-related parameters in vivo.

Physical monitoring techniques are developed in a project that focuses on system-level integration of the process of photosynthesis in vivo and the application to various C3 plants.  Physiological traits that are essential for exceptional photosynthetic performance either at very high or very low irradiances are sought.  These traits are assumed to be generic.  Therefore, if they can be understood in one species, then they can be transported to other species to make a ‘designer C3 phototroph’.

This project is closely related to the project that studies genetic variation in Arabidopsis thaliana of photosynthesis parameters in response to abiotic sress, which aims to do the same thing, but from a genetic, rather than physiological perspective.
